Abu Dhabi says welcome to WOC 2012

Delegates from all over the world have gathered in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, for the World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC 2012).

With over 500 sessions and more than 2000 internationally speakers covering 35 subspecialty in ophthalmology and ocular health the programme will showcase the latest developments and clinical updates. At this year’s WOC the Bietti Medal was presented to Professor Rosario Brancato from the University Hospital San Raffaele in Milan, Italy, for his pioneering work utilizing imaging techniques and lasers to treat patients with retinal and macular diseases. 

The other key award, the Tadeusz Krwawicz Gold Medal went to Professor Alan Bird in recognition of his work on the treatment of retinal vascular diseases and genetic and degenerative retinal disorders. Last not least, Professor Shikgeaki Ohno was presented with the G.O.H. Naumann Award in recognition of his work in ocular allergology, uveitis and ocular inflammation.

Complemented is the conference by 11.000 square metres of an excellent industry exhibition and 136 countries participating in the conference.
