Scientifc Interest

My current research interests fall into three main themes:

  • The pathogenic role of advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs) and RAGE in diabetic retinopathy
  • Retinal angiogenesis including harnessing the regenerative potential of endothelial progenitor cells for ischaemic retinopathies
  • The pathobiology of age-related retinal dysfunction and RPE biology

  • British Microcirculation Society
  • Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO)
  • International Maillard Reaction Society (IMARS)

Further Activities

  • Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) New York.
  • Scientific review committee  (Complications section) (from August 2004 - present)
  • Fight for Sight (UK) Grant Advisory Panel (GAP) member (2006-present)
  • Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation (DWRF) – Research Grant Board (2008-present)
