Ophthalmic Physics

We study the functional morphology of the human retina by noninvasive optical techniques. Models for spectral fundus reflectance have been developed, which yield individual estimates of the photoreceptor quality and the density of the different absorber in the eye (lens, macular pigment, visual pigment, melanin). Recent work involves epidemiological studies on the relation between nutrition, macular pigment and age-related eye diseases.

Two year, multicenter, double-masked, randomized trial comparing lutein versus placebo
  • Project 2:
The effect on visual acuity of three monthly intravitreal injections of Bevacizumab with additional injections when needed compared to monthly intravitreal injections Ranibizumab in patients with exudative age-related macular degeneration.
  • Project 3:
A multicenter that studies the effects of Temporary Inhibition of the Renin-Angiotensin System on future blood pressure and hypertensive organ damage in young prehypertensive adults.
