ARVO is increasing the accessibility of their open access journals

ARVO has always been committed to making vision research widely available to the scientific and clinical communities.

Since January 1, 2016, ARVO’s three journals — Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science (IOVS), Journal of Vision (JOV) and Translational Vision Science & Technology (TVST) have been open access In May, ARVO took an additional step towards increasing accessibility when the Board of Trustees voted to remove the $500 CC-BY (Gold Open Access) surcharge as part of ARVO’s open access pricing model.

All accepted manuscripts are given a CC BY-NC-ND, and now the option for a CC-BY, license for a flat fee of $1,850 (€1,674). A discount of $350 (€317) is offered to corresponding authors who are ARVO members at the time of article acceptance. This discount more than covers the cost of membership and allows for the corresponding author to access full ARVO member benefits.

The additional license makes it more cost effective for authors in the EU to meet open access publishing requirements. All ARVO journal articles that acknowledge funding from Wellcome Trust are deposited on behalf of the authors to PubMed Central (PMC)/Europe PMC.
