Tear film, ocular surface and dry eye

Our group is mainly interested in the function of proteins and peptides that influence tear film peptides (beta defensins, proriasin, and other), surfactant proteins and also hormones such as somatostatin or relaxin.

Moreover, we try to understand physiologic and pathophysiolic mechanisms of cornea, conjunctiva, lacrimal gland, accessory lacrimal glands, Meibomian glands, lid margin, lids, and nasolacrimal ducts. Finally, major focus is on lacrimal gland reconstruction and lacrimal gland stem cell research.

Methodology

  • Cell culture,
  • cell lines (cornea, conjunctiva, meibocytes),
  • dry eye model (mice),
  • cornea wound healing models,
  • immunogold electron microscopy,
  • cell biology,
  • molecular biology
