Retina France – Call for Research Projects

The Retina France Association, upon advice of its Scientific Committee, proposes to promote research and therapeutic applications in the field of retinal degeneration, and other eye conditions within the scope of rare diseases.

The terms

  • Grants are awarded for 1 year. Duly justified equipment claims must not exceed 15 K € (estimate).
  • The recipient agrees to provide a scientific activity report and a detailed financial report of one page each in order to receive funding. The team is committed to present its work on request, during the symposium Vision and Research.

Grant applications must imperatively be sent as follows:

  1. A complete copy in PDF MUST be entitled as follows: retina_subvention2014_name (without first name) to  recherche[at]retina.fr and josseline.kaplan[at]inserm.fr (the email subject must have the same name).
  2. A PDF version of the scientific summary sheet with the name of the applicant.

A. Epidemiology, Genetics and Epigenetics

Identification of genes: structure and function. Broadband approaches. Correlations genotype - phenotype.
Search modulating factors and susceptibility. Gene expression during development and in the adult, in normal and pathological eye.

B. Biochemistry and Cell Biology of normal and pathological ocular structures

Expression, function and interactions of proteins.
Study of the pathophysiological mechanisms and of protection.
Stem cell biology.

C. Study of the molecular and cellular mechanisms of aging and carcinogenesis in relation to vision

D. Animal models of human ophthalmic pathologies

Identification and characterization of natural patterns and creation of experimental models.

E. Clinical research and prevention of blindness

Development of methods for screening and prevention.
Innovative explorations of eye diseases. Neurophysiological studies.
Roles of multi-sensory and brain adaptability.

F. Medical Research

Any action towards the prevention and treatment from the knowledge of the natural history of diseases, genes, their products and pathophysiological mechanisms. For example: gene therapy, cell and tissue transplantation, pharmacological, biophysical and environmental approaches.

G. Technological Innovations

Optimization of residual visual abilities.
Substitution of vision by optical and electronic aids
Local contribution of therapeutic substances.

Some selected projects will be funded by other partner Associations
