Shomi Bhattacharya and colleagues report the identification of six independent mutations in EYS, encoding an ortholog of Drosophila spacemaker, in families with autosomal recessive retinitis pigmentosa. EYS is expressed in photoreceptor cells and likely has a role in the modeling of retinal architecture.
