Marius Ueffing

Short CV

Marius Ueffing got his training in human genetics and biochemistry. As a Research Fellow, he did his PhD work at the Comprehensive Cancer Center, Columbia University and received his PhD from the Albert Ludwigs Universität Freiburg.

In 1989 he joined Parke-Davis-Goedeke, a pharmaceutical company, to work on Protein Kinases involved in Carcinogenesis. In 1993 he returned to academia taking positions at the German Research Center for Environmental Health, GSF, the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the German Research Center for Environmental Health situated in the north of Munich.

Marius Ueffing is now a Full Professor and Director of the Institute for Ophthalmic Research in Tübingen. He is also Head of the Department of Protein Science at the Helmholtz Zentrum München, the German Research Center for Environmental Health situated in Munich.

His methodological research interest is in human genetics, functional proteomics and systems biology. With respect to disease, his group investigates pathomechanisms of neurodegeneration and searches for protein-based therapeutics targeting neurodegeneration in the retina and in midbrain.
