ARVO Campaign Demonstrates Value of Sustained Investment for Patients

ARVO has produced its first public outreach campaign aimed at educating patients, policymakers, and the public on the value of vision research

Titled "Revealing the back of the eye with optical coherence tomography (OCT)," the flagship resource is a series of free-to-use videos aimed at a general audience. These five-minute stories cover patients using OCT to help manage vision-impairing diseases like glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and diabetic retinopathy. The technology's initial support from government funding and potential future applications - diagnosing neurological diseases like Alzheimer's, improving surgical outcomes, and application in telemedicine - are highlighted as well. Other resources include a special issue on the latest OCT research and an advocacy toolkit that can be found on the ARVO Web site. ARVO will be sharing the tools on social media via #OCTimaging and encourages everyone in the vision research community to join the conversation.
