- President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier -

"You have gone with your engagement and enthusiasm far beyond the usual scope for our country. With your diverse commitment to exploration and therapy of retinal degeneration you made a significant contribution to the welfare of the general public. "
- Minister President of Bavaria, Markus Söder -

Second, the Scientific Society of Ophthalmology, the German Ophthalmological Society, at the opening event of the German Ophthalmology Congress on 26th September In 2019 in Berlin, Franz Badura was awarded as the first prizewinner of the new Theodor Leber Medal. "The DOG honors Franz Badura on the occasion of the 117th DOG Congress from 26.9. until 29.9.2019 in Berlin with Theodor Liver Medal in recognition of his outstanding merits around ophthalmology and the German Ophthalmologic Society."

Both awards make me proud of course, but also very grateful. In particular, it motivates me, to continue my personal commitment to the further progress in retinal research.
