Retina research group

The Retina Research Group focuses in research on novel therapies and diagnostic approaches of the main retinal diseases such as age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and inherited retinal diseases.
It has both clinical and preclinical research projects and it collaborates with several groups within the University of Crete Medical School, and abroad.

In addition to the staff of the University Eye Clinic Retina Service it is also supported from the researchers of the Institute of Optics and Vision and it participates in the activities of the Postgraduate Master Program “Optics and Vision”

  • Our projects range from preclinical animal studies to Phase 3 clinical trials.
  • In animal studies we utilize techniques such us basic light and electron, atomic force microscopy, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, liquid chromatography and electrophysiology in animals
  • At the same time we posses a full range of clinical diagnostic and therapeutic modalities such as digital FA, OCT, HRA, HRT, HFP, electrophysiology, access to genotyping facilities and facilities for vitreoretinal microsurgery.
