Centre for Vision & Vascular Science

The Centre for Vision & Vascular Science (CVVS) at Queen's University Belfast is a focused research grouping within the School of Medicine, Dentistry & Biomedical Science (MDBMS). The largest component of our centre is vision-related research which has emerged as a leading programme in academic Ophthalmology in the UK.

This group’s current research interests fall into three main themes:

  1. The pathogenic role of advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs) and RAGE in diabetic retinopathy
  2. Retinal angiogenesis including harnessing the regenerative potential of endothelial progenitor cells for ischaemic retinopathies
  3. The pathobiology of age-related retinal dysfunction and RPE biology

Methodology

  • Molecular cell biology in in vitro and in vivo models of retinal disease and clinical material
