Participation of Switzerland in Horizon 2020

Following a recent referendum in Switzerland, the effects of which effectively restrict the free movement of some EU citizens to the Alpine country, the EC has decided to stop negotiations on the Swiss Association Agreement to Horizon 2020.

The EC’s decision is based on the fact that the new Horizon 2020 programme strongly emphasises the mobility of researchers, which is hindered by the effects of the Swiss referendum.
