MacLaren Research Group

The main focus of our research is on retinal repair and regeneration, using with either gene therapy or stem cell approaches. We are also running several clinical trials for retinal diseases, including a gene therapy trial to treat choroideraemia.

Current Research Projects

Photoreceptor transplantation using a stem cell approach
  • Project 2
Development of improved AAV vector capsids
  • Project 3
Gene replacement strategies for future RP clinical trials
  • Project 4
Gene and cell based strategies for neuroprotection
  • Project 5
    RPE-choroid transplantation surgery for AMD

Methodology

  • Gene therapy with AAV,
  • Animal models of retinal disease,
