- Research Unit Vision First, under the direction of Professor Francesco Bandello, is a cooperation between Complications of Diabetes Unit (directed by Gianpaolo Zerbini, MD, PhD) with a Laboratory Technician, one Master Degree in Biology and one Master Degree in Biotechnology and Ophthalmology Department (directed by Professor Francesco Bandello) with two basic research (50%) and clinical (50%) consultants and a basic research senior consultant, Professor of Ophthalmology of Harvard Medical School
- Cooperation between Myocardial Diseases Department (directed by Professor Paolo Camici) with 2 clinical and experimental senior consultant and Ophthalmology Department (directed by Professor Francesco Bandello) with one clinical consultant
- Bioengineering and Robotics for Ophthalmological Research Challenges
A research pool of doctors and technology experts in the field of bioengineering and robotics, targeting the design of a computer-assisted for three main purposes:
• Assessement of the retinal field area for research purposes or pre-operative planning
• Simulator-based operator training
• Computer- and robot- assisted microsurgery
In particular different ophthalmological surgical techniques are analyzed in terms of the surgical gestures, workspace, force control etc. A constant interaction between the medical team (doctors, microsurgeons...) and the technical staff (engineers, computer scientists) guarantees the implementation of an innovative computer- and robot- assisted system for ophthalmological realm.
The medical team of the ophthalmological department of Hospital San Raffaele collaborates with a team of engineers and computer scientists belonging to the e-Services for Life & Health Services R&D Unit of Hospital San Raffaele , thus joining expertise in medical and technological domain, in particular medical robotics, bioengineering, electronics and informatics.
