Short CV
Ulrich Schiefer studied medicine at the University of Düsseldorf, spending his practical year at the Medical Center (Department of Anaesthesiology) of the University of Colorado, Denver, U.S.A. and at St.Joseph's Hospital, Wuppertal, Germany.
In 1983 he received his final Medical State Examination and in March 1984 he finished his dissertation in experimental cardiophysiology supervised by Prof. G. Arnold with 'summa cum laude'.
Since 1986 he worked as a scientist at the University Eye Hospital Tübingen, Dept. II (Pathophysiology of Vision and Neuro-Ophthalmology). He received his board exam in ophthalmology in 1988.
Since 1989 Ulrich Schiefer is a senior resident at the University Eye Hospital Tübingen, Dept. II and 1993 he received his Habilitation in ophthalmology.
From 1994 - 1998 he was responsible for teaching affairs at the University Eye Hospital and since 1994 he is deputy of the director of the department and executive senior resident.
1999 he got an appointment as Assistant Professor.
Ulrich Schiefer is vice president of the International Perimetric Society (IPS) since 2002. He received the award of the University of Düsseldorf ("Best thesis of the year", 1984), the award of the German Ophthalmologic Society (DOG) für an outstanding educational video film (1992) and the Elfriede-Aulhorn-Award of the DOG in 1996. In 2002, he received the Federal Teaching Award (Ministry of Science, Research and Arts, Baden-Württemberg).
