We want to understand how retinal neurons communicate with each other and work together to transform the image falling on the retina into coded neuronal activity.
We study the retina at various levels ranging from the molecular level (ion channels), via synaptic contacts towards the behaviour of neuronal networks and eventually the whole animal.
The work we are performing is highly multidisciplinary.
We integrate morphology, molecular biology, genetics, electrophysiology, vital imaging, behaviour and computational models. I am fully convinced that such a broad approach is the only way resolving the complicated issue of neuronal communication and coding.
