Toward a virtual human retinal organoid

Professor Hendrik Scholl co-authored a Nature Biotechnology publication. The study characterized retinal organoids by integrating iterative indirect immunofluorescence imaging with a computational approach, dense single-cell RNA sequencing, and a single-cell assay for transposase-accessible chromatin. The results provide a first-of-its-kind digital representation of human retinal organoid development. Follow-up of digital organoid map has the potential, among others, to predict gene regulatory modules underlying retinal neurogenesis.
